BOROUGH OF NEWTOWN
NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT
Minutes of the special meeting of the property owners and/or electors of the Borough of Newtown on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Town Hall South, Newtown for the purpose of approving the budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year. Warden James Gaston called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m.
Present: Warden James Gaston Senior Burgess Joan Crick, Second Senior Burgess
Joseph Maher, Zoning Officer Jean St. Jean, Tax Collector Jodie Enriquez,
Treasurer and Burgess Marie Walker, Burgess Betsy Kenyon, Burgess Anthony
Baiad, Clerk and Burgess Darlene Spencer
Also Present: Registrar of Voters, LeReine Frampton and Karin Aurelia
Absent: None
Registrar, LeReine Frampton, stated that 21 registered Borough voters were in attendance.
Warden Gaston welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. He stated that the estimated budget for 2009-10 recommended by the Board of Burgesses of the Borough of Newtown is hereby set in accordance with the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut at $210,510.00 with a 0.58 mill rate. He explained that the Burgesses were able to reduce the budget by approximately 11% due to steady building fees, no increases in stipends, and drawing from some of our reserves.
Burgess Spencer made a motion that the Borough of Newtown’s Budget as presented for 2009-10 be approved, seconded by Burgess Baiad and unanimously approved.

Burgess Kenyon made a motion to set the mill rate for the Borough of Newtown’s 2009-10 fiscal year at 0.58 mills, seconded by Burgess Walker and unanimously approved.
Senior Burgess Crick made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:49 p.m., seconded by Burgess Baiad and unanimously approved.
